Case Details
Project Overview
Client: Distribution Center
Industry: Logistics & Warehousing
Facility Size: 50,000 sq. ft. (approx. 4,645 sqm)
Ceiling Height: 30 feet (approx. 9 meters)

The Challenge
Global Distribution Center struggled with dim, uneven lighting in their 30-foot high storage racks. Their facility was previously lit by outdated 400W Metal Halide (HID) fixtures. These old lights suffered from significant lumen depreciation over time, resulting in poor visibility that slowed down picking speeds. Furthermore, the inconsistent lighting increased the risk of accidents for forklift operators navigating narrow aisles, while the high heat output of the HID lamps put extra strain on the warehouse's cooling system.

The Solution
To address these issues, we implemented a targeted retrofit using our 50W UFO LED High Bay Lights. Despite the high ceiling, the high efficacy of our LEDs (220 lm/W) allowed the 50W fixture to replace the 400W HID lamps effectively.
Product Installed: 50W UFO LED High Bay Lights
Optics: Equipped with a 120° beam angle to ensure wide, uniform coverage.
Quantity: 200 fixtures were installed to cover the 50,000 sq. ft. area.
Configuration: The setup provided uniform vertical and horizontal illumination, eliminating dark spots between shelves and ensuring light reached the lower levels of the racking.

Operational Impact
Visibility & Safety: The uniform light distribution significantly improved inventory scanning accuracy.
Efficiency: Order picking speed increased by 20% due to better clarity and reduced eye strain.
Energy Savings: The facility saw an immediate 55% reduction in electricity costs compared to the old metal halide fixtures.
Old Load: 200 units × 455W (including ballast) = 91,000W
New Load: 200 units × 50W = 10,000W
Massive reduction in energy consumption. With a rated lifespan of 50,000 hours, the new LED lights drastically reduced maintenance costs associated with replacing burnt-out bulbs.
